Is the minimum width of the forum too large for your screen? If so, then that's a bug (I always suspect such bugs with these forum "styles"). Noted :)

Re: Templates, tech specs and so on

Hmm. The "This LV recording is in the PD" meant, for me, that *I* was releasing it in the PD. I mean, it just means I can't claim any rights over it, I am releasing this recording - but if the text is PD in your country or not, that's for you to research. I second Ruth, and there is no contradictio...

Re: Templates, tech specs and so on

I don't mind section 0. It's only that in most of my projects the chapter number isn't the section number anyway. Viktor wants to build a tool that can suck metadata. Maybe sec 0 makes this more difficult? No worries, IT people like counting from zero, but it's just a technical habit. I can start w...

Re: File hosting, distribution and storage

I think it would be simpler to say (for example) that German law applies and then host all the files in Germany (because if you host some of the files in France or Hungary or whatever, why should anyone accept that German law applies?). I just seems to me that putting files in various countries is ...

Re: File hosting, distribution and storage

Dear Carl, are you based in the UK? ;) Why are you at all surprised that anything that spans several European countries is necessarily going to be a chaos? Maybe a beautiful, enriching, mind-expanding chaos, but still a mess! (Wasn't it along these lines that L'Auberge Espagnole ended...?) And then ...

Re: Domain name

Funny, I thought it would be the other way round: "Let's read" sounded too much like a reading club to me (reading silently), so I added the "together". And like Hokuspokus, I suggest some explanation on the front (=catalogue?) page - which will be legamus.eu or http://www.legamus.eu, of course - an...

Domain name

I have plenty of ideas flirring around in my head, and I try to put them into a reasonable order :) That leads me to the question: Do you all agree on the domain name "legamus.eu" ? It happens to be the URL we're on right now, but I don't want to force that on you, it's only an offer! There was also...

Re: File hosting, distribution and storage

Now may I add one more point to the wish list? Could you build something that collects all the data from a database and puts it together into a HTML catalog page? Something we could copy and past where ever we decide to have the catalog. Sure, that's very much what I had in mind. Instead of all-dyn...

Uploading to Free.fr

You can use the web interface http://dl.free.fr for files of up to 1GB. For files between 1GB and 10GB you must use FTP. Re: Sponsored server?

I had a very positive chat today; in short, what we'd want is called more a patron (mécène) than a sponsor. My contact was quite confident that we'd find someone and he offered to help in this process. We'd have to present our project and our needs in two or three paragraphs. That said, I believe th...

Re: File hosting, distribution and storage

I agree that it would be nice to have flac files first, while we are working on it and only encode to mp3 for the final release. But: Many PLers use their mp3 player for listening and many of them can't play flac. Many useful software (mp3gain, mp3tag, ... )works with mp3 only. I don't want to chan...

Re: Templates, tech specs and so on

But before we'll decide to put such a random letter code in it: did LV get a lot of complaints about this? I don't recall ever having seen this on the forums. Very good question! My MP3-player is over 5 years old; most people are not using this kind of stone age equipment anymore ... :P Or is this ...

Re: Templates, tech specs and so on

Actually, my MP3-player (but perhaps it's a strange one :)) sorts by only the first 4 or 5 characters; which means that files starting with book title are sorted all wrong  My husband wrote a linux script that puts '001', '002' etc. in front of all files in a folder, sorted on file name. My g...

Re: File hosting, distribution and storage

If you upload something on dl.free.fr with an account, I think it's easier to get or recover a deletion link. Tutorial follows shortly :) I'm sorry that I haven't been more active within LV itself; I've maybe a lot of naive or wrong ideas of the final steps between BC and MC. Correct me when I'm wro...

Sponsored server?

A small server costs in France or Germany around 20 euros per month in a reasonable offer. (You also find offers with "unlimited storage" but I wouldn't count on that for a project of our size ;) ) Such a server would hold most of our infrastructure and give us some space for growth and some nice ex...

Free.fr - well, er - it's all French. I couldn't even find were to create an account  Tutorial will follow! Re: File hosting, distribution and storage

Dropbox would be a good candidate, except that they are based in the US.

As Hokuspokus said, they might be OK for private backups, but not for public downloads, be it temporary forum links or permanent catalogue links.

Re: Discussion of set-up/future legamus.eu

So you'd want a wiki? No problem! I have some experience with setting up MediaWiki, that's the software Wikipedia and the LV wiki run on. It's reliable but not very adapted for rights management - it's very good if everything is public. Of course, it's possible to force people to login before they c...
