Re: Domain name
Hello everyone, I like the name Legamus but still I'm in favor of LibriVox.eu. The reason is simple: for people who know LibriVox it's immediately clear what we stand for. That gives us a better start than if we would start from scratch. And there are no legal problems. Gutenberg has proven that. B...

Re: Templates, tech specs and so on
As for German law, I can't put my recording into the public domain; for two reasons: 1. There is no public domain in Germany. Something can be "gemeinfrei" (this is not the same, though in everyday usage it has the same effect), but only when the author (me, in this case) is dead for more...

Re: Templates, tech specs and so on
EDIT: In fact, I would be even happier if I could actually state "The Prophet is still under copyright in the United States." I think this is a wise thing to do; in fact for all books that we know are popular, still under copyright in the US and still a 'milking cow' for companies over th...

Re: Where can we find book texts to read for legamus.eu?
Thanks for editting my post, HokusPokus (I think it' s you who did that?) :) I'll take out my original posting, just the list is OK. Our policy is not to overlap with LV, right? I.e.: all pre-1923 books should be over at their place and not legamus.eu? If so, I think we should put this in the first ...

Was that book written originally in English? (The site doesn't mention any translator.)

Re: Templates, tech specs and so on
I think the sentence about volunteering, if any, should be at the end. Yes, good idea! It does take some seconds to press stop, and by then they've heard it already, especially if it's short  True, and when running/biking etc. it's not convenient to press stop that quickly. I usually let my M...

Re: Forum guidelines?
I think we should stick to the LV settings, because we only do works here that can't be done at LV. We know how addictive this is, so people will want to record other books and jump from LV to Legamus and back. But we don't have to be that strict with the settings here. Just point them out and tell...

Re: Forum guidelines?
I'd suggest letting the guidelines grow as needed, rather than trying to put too much in place to start with. It worked well for LibriVox. :) The difference is that LV started from scratch, and we have their great example now, preventing the need for re-inventing the wheel. I think we'll have to mo...

Re: Disclaimer I think we should have a disclaimer in each recording. How about: Only for the first section: Book Title by Author. Translated by Translator. This Legamus dot eu recording is in Public Domain. Chapter/section 1 (Chaptertitle) For all other sections: Section # of Book Title. This Lega...

Re: Templates, tech specs and so on
Looks good to me! *** End of list *** The rest of this template will be filled in by your Meta Coordinator (MC) I think the rest can be kept out; the MC will copy it in later on. Thus, newbees won't be confused/intimidated by it. Of course experienced members can go ahead and fill out the MC-form th...

Re: Domain name
Hi Cori, nice to get more and more users over here! :) One thing I would say - and I have to admit my Latin is not great, so I may be mistaken - is that "legamus" can mean "I read", but it can also mean "I steal". Which would sort of be the last thing we would want to b...

Re: Templates, tech specs and so on
Re. the Magic Window: perhaps Viktor could get in touch with the people at LV who developed that? But we don't need this kind of technology immediately; would be nice though in a later stage, when we are growing.

I split up the topic, so we now have a new one about websites with book texts that are PD in the EU (but not necessarily in the US).

Where can we find book texts to read for legamus.eu?
Many books are waiting for your voice! Please always check carefully that the author is dead for more than 70 years, before you start recording. We record only books published in or after 1923. If you want to record a book first published before 1923, please visit librivox.org Various languages * h...

Re: Ten books
Hi Carl, welcome over here :) E du Perron - Het Land van Herkomst I never really noticed this author; somehow he didn't appear on the obligatory list we had to read in high school and before my LV-life I wasn't too much into literature. But this looks interesting :) Only problem is the length (over ...

Re: let's read together=book club Well, yes, a bit. But once there are some Legamus! recordings out there, people will know what is meant. Yes, we need content! :D I ordered a book today that (as Dutch translation) was published in 1923; this is my first project in mind for legamus.eu :) Of course ...
