This is a realist novellette featuring how Isabel, wife of Don Pau Armengol, falls victim to a slander promoted by political interests in a small Catalan town as seen from the perspective of a young lawyer from Barcelona.<\/em><\/p>\n

Isabel \u00e9s la muller de Don Pau Armengol, hereu d’una vella fam\u00edlia del poble que en versions posteriors l’autor anomenar\u00e0 Vilaniu (pseud\u00f2nim de Reus). Isabel esdev\u00e9 v\u00edctima d’una cal\u00famnia promoguda per interessos pol\u00edtics. Aquesta novel\u00b7leta presenta el contrast entre el fosc immobilisme i la mesquinesa de la societat de la vila en contrast amb l’empenta pol\u00edtica i cient\u00edfica de la ciutat de Barcelona, lluminosa i avan\u00e7ada.<\/p>\n
