Then whatever happened did so at exporting stage.

Can you just export it again as a MP3 ?

Ok, reuploaded. I hope it's OK now.
As you'll notice in the MW, there are two sections named "03". The reasons for it are explained earlier in the thread. I'll fix it at some point.

Can it be that you now got trapped in this double-03 confusion? You just re-uploaded the real third section (divisions V-VI). That one had been mono and is still mono. The joint stereo file was the real second section (divisons I - IV) and that one is still joint stereo ;)

OK then. I'll just fix the intro and outro and re-upload it with the correct number.

I can listen to a fragment just to confirm the quality - but I am sure it will be ok. The stereo original was very good quality.

OK, here comes section 2 (the first part of introduction) with fixed intro and outro.
But, for some reason, it's in stereo again

I have a Mac so my settings might look different, but if you look into Audacity Settings, it should be under Devices. Check setting for Channels - should be one only, mono. I know that my settings sometimes go weird when I unplug the microphone while in Audacity.

That setting is important for a new recording. But Piotr already has one. Piotr, is the track that you see in Audacity stereo or mono?

If it's stereo, convert it to mono with "Tracks -> Stereo Track to Mono".

Do you export it to MP3 from within Audacity? Then a mono track should always give a mono MP3 file, regardless of the "Options" in the Export dialog.

The MP3 track is in stereo.
What I'm interested in is what about other section of this project? Are they in stereo too? I am not sure what you mean by "export from within Audacity". I don't use any other programs in the process of recording and editing if that's what you mean.

I guess that I'll now start editing the sections which I've recorded :)

The other sections are all mono.

Is it normal for you that the MP3 track is in stereo? If not, I guess it's the configuration setting that Nina pointed out. Somehow Audacity thought it has to record stereo from your microphone.

But it's no problem - with the command in my previous post you can convert it to a mono track and export to MP3 again.

OK. So have you converted this one?
One more section should be uploaded today.

Still a slight misunderstanding here ;)

If we want to get maximum quality, you have to convert in your Audacity the stereo track to a mono track, then upload it again. You have in your Audacity the original, uncompressed recording. I only have a first MP3 compression, and whatever I'd do with it, it would result in re-encoding.

OK.
In the meantime, I uploaded section 6. In mono ;)

EDIT (for Nina) : I recorded it with my window open, so you're likely to hear birds, sirens and stuff :D Hopefully, it won't be too disruptive.

OK, section 2 uploaded. This one should be OK.

I added a few more section numbers to the Google Window. One day, I'll start editing the ones I've already recorded and then you'll have quite a supply to listen to, Nina :D Today I started the one where Malinowski gives a description of Kula in more detail.

Track 3 ok (I am using the numbering from column A of magic window).

Track 4 PL OK, but there is electronic buzz in the background, this can be easily removed taking as noise sample the last 5 seconds and using very 'light' noise removal settings as it is the only noise there. Onwards to the next track :-)

(25 minutes later)

Track 6 ok, no buzz. You must've recorded somewhere near open window? - I could hear birds in the background - adds that special touch to all the descriptions of gorgeous landscapes. There is a typo in the metadata - Wester (n is missing).

Thanks for the feedback, Nina.
I'll take care of the noise at some later point.
As to the open window, I mentioned it above. It's good that you don't find it distractive :)

It's very faint and probably won't be heard when not on headphones. Don't worry about it at all :-)

Section 9 (the last part of chapter 2) has been uploaded. In the meantime, it turned out that I must have kept my mike turned off when recording chapter 8, because the whole thing is silent
