Books we can not record yet

Post by Hokuspokus »

But in a few years.

I recently learned that the famous Bambi story is by Felix Salten, originally published in German in 1923.
As Salten died in 1945, we can record it in 2016.

Any takers? ;)

I don't dare to claim anything for 2016 ;)

Just thought about searching in Wikipedia. The German Wikipedia categorises all writers with "Autor" (author) and the death year, too. You can search for incategory:"Autor" incategory:"Gestorben 1942" and you get authors who died in 1942, becoming recordable in 2013. In that list, the Austrians Robert Musil and Stefan Zweig are the most famous ones (though Musil's main work, "The Man Without Qualities", will only be partially free as it was incomplete and had other editors).

Unfortunately, the English Wikipedia articles don't seem to put every writer in a single category, so that search trick won't work there.

Beatrix Potter's only novel (The Fairy Caravan) is PD in 2014 :D (And the rest of her work, but everything else can be recorded for LV)

As the magic year for PD in Australia is 1955, Bambi should be OK for me. Where can I find the text?

Cheers

There was a link here, that I unfortunately felt obliged to delete...

It's PD for you, Algy, but not for most others here, who have to stay with life+70. So you'd have to do it outside Legamus, sorry! however, if you do it, my best wishes for it!

We actually CAN record this one as of 2013 ;)
If you're interested in anthropology, you may be interested to learn that the works of Bronisław Malinowski, a Polish anthropologist who worked among primitive tribes describing their lives, have entered public domain on Jan 1st 2013. I believe that at least some of those works were originally written in English which means there's no traslator to consider :D

I've been thinking about recording "Argonauts of the Western Seas" by Bronisław Malinowski (see the previous post). It seems to be written in a rather plain language, which is definitely a welcome change after Lovecraft's purple prose  What scares me is that the book is massive - over 200k words! The good thing is that each chapter is conveniently subdivided into smaller sections. Tempting...

If I still record in my retirement, I can read one of my favourite stories "Sadako will leben" (in English: The Day of the Bomb) by Karl Bruckner.

Aka Borchardt will be available for us in 2014, he died 16. Nov 1943 ... btw does that mean, he is already available, since he died 70 years and ONE week ago? 8-)

I want to have a look at this but I haven't been able to find a text. It isn't on gutenberg Australia or Canada.
