Hello! I think my first message was marked as spam, so I'll try again:

In choosing an English-language text for the collection, is Adelaide allowed or is PGA preferable?

Erin

Hello Erin and welcome to Legamus!

I am terribly sorry that you had to wait for so long until I saw your post. It was a very good idea to contact me at LV.

Actually I have never heard about that Adelaide site. Could you give me a link, please, so I can have a look. Another source is always good. PG Australia is OK as source but for several reasons it's not the very best source.

No worries! It's all sorted now, and my account's activated, and it's all grand.

The main page for ebooks@Adelaide is: https://ebooks.adelaide.edu.au/.

There's a little copyright logo at the bottom, but on the ebooks themselves I've not noticed any attempt to claim copyright - just a large notice that the text is in the public domain in Australia.

I ask for selfish reasons, as I find the layout of the Adelaide texts a bit easier to read. It also seems, at least in the books I've done very quick comparisons of, that Adelaide are slightly better at reproducing accents and characters in French.

I understand, why you prefer Adelaide. In general this source is OK to use, but we can't do every text from there, because Australian copyright is a bit different from copyright in the EU. They switched from +50 to +70 only recently so there are some authors pd there who are not pd in EU - Blackwood for example. And we need to check the death dates of the translators, too. Other than that it is a good source.

We are not as strict about the length of a texts in short works and solos. If your text has more than 40000 words you can also do it as solo, if you prefer.

Hi Hokuspokus,

I have three short poems for the collection, for whoever wants to PL, whenever they get a chance. I realise most people are on Librivox and things move a bit more slowly here!

The poems are all by Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936), and all are taken from Debits and Credits (1926):
https://ebooks.adelaide.edu.au/k/kiplin ... rd/debits/

Section 08, Late Came the God:
http://upload.legamus.eu/simple/files/Q ... god_el.mp3
(1.44)

Section 09, Rahere (there's a small typo in line 3, where 'Feed' should be 'Fed'):
http://upload.legamus.eu/simple/files/Q ... ere_el.mp3
(3.49)

Section 10, We and They:
http://upload.legamus.eu/simple/files/Q ... hey_el.mp3
(2.12)

I can't seem to get into the MW this morning, but I'll try to add them later.

I realise that Australia and Canada have different copyright laws and that not everything on PG can be recorded until 1 January of the right year. I'm lurking, waiting for a couple of authors to come into the public domain.

You've actually anticipated a question I had. I have my eye on a short story and poem that are about 60 words short of 4,000 words. I wasn't certain what the cut-off was.

Thank you for the recordings, Erin. I listened to them and they are all PL OK :D

The MWs don't work at the moment. They are on a freehoster and make trouble very now and then. I will add the recordings, when the MW works again.

About this other text - with almost 4000 words it is up to you where to put it. You can put it into this collection. It should be full or almost full so we could wait for it and it will be in the catalog soon. I have to wait for the MW to work again before I can catalog the collection. Or you can make it a solo and it will be in the catalog almost as soon.

Hurrah!

Please don't hold this collection up for my speculative thing - it definitely won't be ready in the next week or anything. It's just useful to know so I don't create extra work for the MC either way.

Thanks for such a quick PL and a very easy first time submitting something to Legamus!

The MWs work again and I could enter the new recordings. We are full! and we will go into the catalog in a few days. There will be another collection when this one is cataloged.
