Solo [EN] The Quest for Corvo, by A J A Symons - vik

Given that I've been recording Hadrian VII for well over a year on LibriVox and am still stuck fast somewhere near the middle of it, I hope I won't be thought quixotic for proposing to undertake, as a first solo for legamus, this remarkable (and widely admired) biography of its author?

I would be reading from my own first edition copy (1934), which I can authenticate. Symons obligingly died in 1941, so is PD outside the US as of a short while ago. If there is any copyright impediment not known to me, perhaps someone could let me know. (I know Cori is also a fan of the book and is very clued up on copyright matters.)

This would undoubtedly be one of those slowly-delivered legamus projects that nevertheless come to fruition in time. ;)

All the best
Martin

Hello Martin

It would be my pleasure to act as DPL for this project.

Like you, I have an interest in Baron Corvo. At some stage I plan to organize a reading of his translation of the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam.

Cheers

Algy Pug

Great! :D

I'll be the MC. As this is a solo, are you both fine without a MW? In other solo projects we found it not really necessary. Of course, if you feel it would be better, you can have it anytime.

As an alternative to ge.tt, you can also use our own uploader.

Moving to Readers Found.

Hi

Many thanks, Viktor and Algy. This is my first legamus solo and I suppose I'll be OK without an MW, since it seems to suit other readers.

I'm trying a new microphone set-up and if I like it, this will be my first project using it. Perhaps that will take a few days to work out.

Thanks again
Martin

Good evening Martin

I have ordered a copy of the book. When it arrives I can set up a spreadsheet on Googledocs if you wish. It would at least be useful to me as PLer.

Will you still be using a USB microphone or have you changed to a microphone plus preamplifier/mixer? I am always interested in finding out what gear other readers are using.

Cheers

Algy

Hi Algy

By all means arrange a spreadsheet if it will be useful.

What I have here is an MXL 990 condenser mic connected to a Zoom H4n Handy Recorder. Then I suppose I'll send the recorded .wav files via USB to the PC. Being the non-technical person I am, it will take me a while to get comfortable with it.

Hope this makes sense.

In that case, I'll put up the MW (which is just a spreadsheet on Google docs) and give both of you write access. Not wanting to neglect my MC duties! ;)

Just tell me how many sections. By the way, happy Easter!

Very nice pieces of sound gear. As you would be aware the Zoom H4n does record to an SD card. If your computer does not have a built-in card reader, you can buy external USB connected card readers very cheaply.

I have tried recording through the H4n using an external dynamic microphone. The sound quality was fine but I found that that volume level was rather low. However, you may get a bigger sound with your condenser microphone.

All MXL gear is good - I don't believe I have ever seen a bad review for any of their products. In particular their microphones are particularly well tailored for spoken audio.

Cheers

Algy

If you only use one single large SD card, one might be able to read it just by connecting the H4n via USB to the computer.

Happy Easter, Viktor!

I shall need 24 sections - the book has 20 chapters, about 4 of which are uncomfortably long without division.

Many thanks
Martin

Which ones are divided?

Many thanks

Hi

I shall be attempting to return to recording in the next few days after an unplanned hiatus.

Please note that I have slightly adjusted the project page to feature Algy as DPL and to use the CC BY Attribution - This recording may be distributed and adapted freely for any purpose, as long as Legamus is credited.

I am assuming that I should still use the uploading route given on the project page; but if there has been a change, perhaps someone could let me know.

All the best for the New Year to everyone :)
Martin

Happy new year!

You can continue to use ge.tt or our own uploader. As you like!

The free.fr uploader is sometimes complicated or buggy; the two above are better.
