Group [ENG] Anne of Windy Poplars by L. M. Montgomery - crow

Post by SweetPea »

Anne of Windy Poplars by Lucy Maud Montgomery 1874 - † 1942
The fourth in the "Anne" series, Anne of Windy Poplars takes place when Gilbert leaves for medical school, and Anne accepts the job of principal at Summerside High School. Anne is sure she'll have a lovely time staying with the widows Aunt Kate and Aunt Chatty, and their outspoken housemaid Rebecca Dew, but it soon becomes apparent that the Pringles, Summerside's "Royal Family", are determined otherwise. Can Anne make friends with the Pringles and enjoy a peaceful stay in Summerside? Or will she return to Avonlea defeated?

Note: Anne of Windy Poplars was also published in the UK as Anne of Windy Willows. The novel was published years after most of the other Anne books and is therefore still under copyright in the USA.

Hi :)
When I was 10 I read all the available parts of "Anne..." including this one, in Polish translation, ofc. I liked the whole cycle a lot- I even wrote a composition about Anne when I had the high school entry test. I haven't touched the books in over 20 years, though. I may want to volunteer for a section or three at some point, just to refresh my memories ;)
Also, due to the small size of this community it may take a long time before this project is completed so be prepared for that. We\ve had a few group readings, which you can find in our catalogue, though.

I will definitely be participating! This one and Anne's House of Dreams are my two favourite Anne books!! I will be back when the MW is up! :D :D
The world is full of evil, and lies, and pain, and death, you can’t hide from it; you can only face it.
The question is, when you do,
how do you respond? Who do you become?

Downloading
as long as we don't have a DPL I'll jump in for your own files, since you can't pl them all by yourself, okay? Might take some time though, sorry!
just in case the MW fails, you might consider posting the download links here in a post as well.
just in case.... 8-)

by the way, great work done with filling the MW!
regards

Oh I just noticed:
Please only use the section no. for the track no., id tags and filenames.
we have some automized processes, that can't handle other countings.
not: anneofwindypoplars_1_01_montgomery.mp3
but
anneofwindypoplars_01_montgomery.mp3
up to
anneofwindypoplars_44_montgomery.mp3
that's okay

section 01

0.42 "...I also love Spook's lane .... " - there is noise in the background
3.35 "...house, for a certain Mrs. Tom ..." - there is a sudden change of volume, you might try less changes in mic distance for future recordings

there are quite some other volume changes and different echoe effects all over the recording.
you can avoid them by a fixed position of you and the mic during recording, or by using the compressor effect on the file afterwards. That sort if smoothes the volume and echoes.
(just a tip for future recordings!)

4.15 repeat: "... "'I've heard they want a boarder ..."
4.55 repeat: "...Aunt Chatty is Mrs. ..."
8.15 "I assured Mrs ..." - volume gets low there and especially at: "...'Kate and Chatty won't..."

11.50 " arched trellis above () a faded green door in " - a long pause
17.10 ".. . It seems Captain MacComber bought ..." - suddenly very loud
17.25 repeat: like a...like a fat blue. doughnut..
19.15 stumble: ...when we studied Tenny...son...
19.20 repeat: mourning her.. mourning her ravished pines
19.25 repeat: ...Beyond the grove and the graveyard ...
20.05 stumble: .... the crimson winds of ...autumn ...
20.15 stumble: ... How I've always thrilled to that,.. Bible verse
21.42 stumble: ... I called ...Rebecca Dew 'Miss Dew'...
24.18 stumble: ... Rebecca Dew has some very ...fine qualities...
26.40... tell you everything, so that ... - noise in the background
26.50 stumble:... for far... up the harbor ...
27.15 stumble: ... from one who is (and) now and ever will be,...

ID Tags: please adjust the section no. at the track title too.

Fluently and clearly audible reading. Nice and fitting pronounciation!

But since you have so many minor little stumbles, noises and such, you might consider re-listening to your recording yourself before uploading the file, sort of a first pl-ing.
Would make things easier. This projects aren't about speed anyway. :-)

I understand. Most of the time I have only one or two mistakes
I will be able to fix and re-upload by the first week in September ;) Thank you very much for Pl'ing my section. If you decide to record any, I would be happy to listen to them for you :)

Thank you!
I haven't recorded anything in English yet. I think I consider my German accent as too heavy, though.
But don't worry. At some days bugs just lurk around and bite at almost every sentence . ;)
happens to all of us.
