Re: Solo [EN] The Testament of Beauty - R. Bridges - vik

Hi

Profuse apologies!

I've been getting reliable email alerts so far on legamus, but for the first time I didn't get one to flag up your latest file.

I'll be listening to Section 1 shortly.

Best regards
Martin

Re: Eng[Solo] Within a Budding Grove by Proust - hok

Hi The second of your two alternatives is nearer, but make the 'uh' syllable very short indeed, and the first syllable shouldn't be stressed. (British English speakers tend to overstress initial syllables in French, whereas Americans hammer the final syllable; generally the French skitter along with...

Which ones are divided?
Here's the Section information:-

Chapters to be split into two parts - nos. 5, 7, 11 and 14.

Many thanks

Re: Solo [EN] The Quest for Corvo, by A J A Symons - vik

In that case, I'll put up the MW (which is just a spreadsheet on Google docs) and give both of you write access. Not wanting to neglect my MC duties! ;) Just tell me how many sections. By the way, happy Easter! Happy Easter, Viktor! I shall need 24 sections - the book has 20 chapters, about 4 of wh...

Re: Solo [EN] The Quest for Corvo, by A J A Symons - vik

Hi Algy By all means arrange a spreadsheet if it will be useful. What I have here is an MXL 990 condenser mic connected to a Zoom H4n Handy Recorder. Then I suppose I'll send the recorded .wav files via USB to the PC. Being the non-technical person I am, it will take me a while to get comfortable wi...

Re: Solo [EN] The Quest for Corvo, by A J A Symons - vik

Hi Many thanks, Viktor and Algy. This is my first legamus solo and I suppose I'll be OK without an MW, since it seems to suit other readers. I'm trying a new microphone set-up and if I like it, this will be my first project using it. Perhaps that will take a few days to work out. Thanks again Martin

Solo [EN] The Quest for Corvo, by A J A Symons - vik

Given that I've been recording Hadrian VII for well over a year on LibriVox and am still stuck fast somewhere near the middle of it, I hope I won't be thought quixotic for proposing to undertake, as a first solo for legamus, this remarkable (and widely admired) biography of its author? I would be re...

Hi

Section 25: there's one repeated passage to be edited out -

@23:31 "It would surely be difficult for her to find another man who would consent to anything of the sort."

Otherwise all PL OK.

No go, by the look of it. As far as I can discover, the story was first published in Sept 1913 in the Westminster Gazette in a censored form. It wasn't published again before 1934 in the collection A Modern Lover. Hrrmmph.

Re: Group - D H Lawrence - short stories-neb/vik

Here we go. Regarding the publishing dates, there are three stories which would also fit on LV ("Her Turn", "Strike-Pay", and "The Mortal Coil"). While I don't want to suggest to split them off this project, maybe the readers want to consider putting them also into a L...

Re: Eng[Solo] Within a Budding Grove by Proust - hok

Hi

Section 24 is PL all OK. The only noticeable departure from conventional pronunciation was the Yiddish word Schlemihl, where you stressed the first syllable. It is said as "shle-MEAL" - but I don't think it matters enough to change it.
